AI Now Calls Local Businesses via Google Search

Google has announced an AI-enabled calling service in Google Search, which can automatically connect to nearby businesses, like pet groomers, dry cleaners and auto shops, on behalf of someone using their Google Search app in the United States, through an AI assistant that asks prices, appointment availability and other basic questions.

What’s New

  1. Put the order as AI check pricing
Whenever a user makes a search query on relevant services (e.g. when they type in “pet groomers near me”), they see a button that allows them to talk to an AI assistant and have a pricing question answered by that assistant.
  2. AI-Guided Questionnaires
The AI will pose follow up questions- such as the type of pet, type of service needed, time, and preferred communication (SMS or e-mail).
  3. Automated Calls via Duplex + Gemini
Google Search places the calls with the use of its Duplex technology and Gemini AI (including the more advanced Gemini 2.5Pro). The AI has been introduced in the form of an obvious automated virtual assistant.
  4. Summarized Results
After the calls are done, the user will have a summary of responses on the price, service windows and options through text or email message.

Available Now (U.S. Only)

The feature is being gradually launched in most of the U.S. states- with certain exceptions (e.g. Indiana, Louisiana, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska) and is free to all users in the U.S. On Pro and AI Ultra, Google Search has extended limit permissible usage.

Business Control & Transparency

  1. The company could avail of the option to opt out through their Google Business Profile.
  2. Quality assurance monitoring of all calls is in place with recording.
  3. At the beginning of the call, the AI greets and immediately announces that this is an automated assistant of Google about the purpose of the call.

Why It Matters

  1. Saves Time for Users
Streamlines mundane activities, which is beneficial to people who do not want or like to call small businesses.
  2. Boosts Business Engagement
This means that the profiles should be accurate and up-to-date since more contact with high-ranking local businesses is liable to contact through AI.
  3. Expands AI Agent Capabilities
This fits into the wider policy of Google, such as Gemini 2.5 Pro, and “Deep Search” in AI Mode to improve research findings and thinking processes.

How It Works — User Experience

  • Search for local service (e.g., “dry cleaner near me”)
  • Select “Have AI check pricing”
  • Answer a brief questionnaire provided by the AI
  • Confirm via a summary prompt
  • Receive results with consolidated business responses

Implications & Outlook

  1. To Consumers: you can now forget those blah phone calls. An individual request made with the help of AI can get quotes of two or more providers.
  2. Businesses: It is important to remain visible and maintained their profiles to be up-to-date since the AI uses the standard ranking of the local SEO to find the call targets.
  3. In the case of Search Innovation: Google is raging ahead seeking to blur the distinction between passive searching and agentic AI experiences that are task-based.

Looking Ahead

  1. Google is also likely to enhance the number of supported categories (e.g., medical, restaurants), enhance the comprehension of complicated requests, and extend outside of the U.S. boundaries.
  2. The future revolutions could be identity verification, more discriminating query treatment, and tighter surveillance in order to handle business loads.

About Google AI Mode & Gemini 2.5 Pro

Google AI-Mode (launched in March 2025) is even stronger than the Gemini 2.0+ in that it is able to talk during a conversation and has many actions. In the format of subscription, Gemini 2.5 Pro and new Deep Search regime propose access to advanced options to facilitate working with several queries and automate any operations.
