Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta wants to bring content creators to Facebook and Instagram through an incentive program because TikTok’s US operations are endangered. The company has established a payment program that gives creators up to $5,000 when they post regularly on Facebook and Instagram for three months.
The Breakthrough Bonus Programme on Meta’s website lets creators get their payments in their first 90 days when they keep posting regularly. The company judges cash bonuses based on how active the creator is on social media.
Meta lets participants join Facebook’s content monetization program to earn from their posts alongside the financial bonuses. As part of their agreement creators can test “Meta Verified” services which includes the blue checkmark and premium features without charge. During the qualification period Meta provides the content monetization program and Meta Verified feature without charging fees to creators.
A strategic move to woo TikTok creators
Despite not officially targeting TikTok creators Meta introduced its bonus program soon after TikTok disappeared from US app stores as NDTV reported. Despite President Donald Trump’s temporary reprieve of 75 days TikTok remains inaccessible to download on US app stores with its 170 million American users stuck in an uncertain status.
Meta uses its new program to attract TikTok creators who want to stay connected to their viewers and make money on another platform because of TikTok’s unstable situation. The users who make their living through TikTok find Meta’s money-making promises and platform improvements hard to resist.
Meta’s longstanding rivalry with ByteDance
Meta has taken steps to reach ByteDance users before this. After ByteDance’s CapCut lost availability in the US due to TikTok’s ban Meta introduced “Edits” a video editing app that matches CapCut’s features.
Meta added a new option that lets users insert affiliate links directly into their videos just like TikTok made it famous.
To compete with TikTok Instagram now shows posts in a rectangular screen format just like how TikTok shows content.
As Meta works to draw creators from TikTok’s platform it reveals its intention to lead the short video and social content sector.
