Reminders and repetitive actions can now be scheduled for the AI chatbot.
New beta extension of ChatGPT: Tasks is a new ability in ChatGPT that allows you to set up future actions and reminders.
The feature, which is rolling out to Plus, Team, and Pro subscribers today, is a move to make the chatbot more resemble a digital assistant of sorts — a lot like Google Assistant or Siri, with ChatGPT’s linguistic tools.
Tasks is a tool where users simply ask ChatGPT what they need and when. Do you need 7AM 7 Day Weather Forecast? You forgot your passport expired? Or just a knock-knock joke to make at bedtime for your children? That is all ChatGPT can now take care of in recurring or one-time tasks.
Subscription holders will have to opt for “4o with scheduled tasks” from ChatGPT’s model picker to activate the feature. Once you do that, all you have to do is enter what you need ChatGPT to do and when you need it done. – The system can even suggest actions from your conversations, though the users must also explicitly accept the suggestion before it is generated. (Seriously, the recommendations are kind of like, naughty slop that just turns up).
You can also track everything either from chat conversations or from the brand-new Tasks tab (only available on the web) in your profile menu, so you can easily edit and uncheck any task you’ve created. Once they’re done, they’ll notify the web, desktop and mobile users. You can also only have 10 running jobs running at the same time.
OpenAI hasn’t said when (or if) the feature will be available to free users, but Tasks may still be a premium feature that will help pay for ChatGPT’s subscription fee. The subscription plan includes $30 and $200 plans each month.
Scheduling is already a feature common in digital assistants but this is a new one for ChatGPT. Till now, the AI had only worked in real time and with instant requests, not with regular work or planning. Tasks mean that OpenAI is moving ChatGPT beyond chat into a space where virtual assistants had their seat.
