Oracle and Uber Technologies, Inc. have announced a seven-year strategic cloud relationship to accelerate Uber’s innovation, assist with the delivery of new products to market, and drive higher profitability.

As Uber expands and enters new regions, it becomes increasingly vital for the company to prioritize its core competencies and strategic ambitions. By transferring some of Uber’s most essential workloads to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), the firm will be able to upgrade its infrastructure and accelerate its road to profitability.

“Uber is revolutionizing the way people, products, and services move across continents and through cities,” said Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi. “To deliver on that promise for customers while building value for shareholders, we needed a cloud provider to help us maximize innovation while reducing our overall infrastructure costs. Oracle provides an ideal combination of price, performance, flexibility, and security to help us deliver incredible customer service, build new products, and increase profitability.”

OCI’s strategy and product vision have been heavily validated by its new strategic alliance with Uber and by recent analyst reports. Customers are looking for a versatile, world-spanning infrastructure that offers top-tier performance at an affordable price. Now that Uber has access to OCI, it can use its unique features.

Safra Catz, CEO of Oracle, explained that Uber required a cloud partner that shared the company’s “relentless commitment on innovation” because Uber is transitioning into a “go anywhere, get anything” platform. “The market momentum and acceleration we are witnessing is further validated by OCI’s historic competitive success. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure stands apart from other hyperscalers in terms of performance, security, and cost savings, and businesses, governments, and startups all across the world are beginning to take notice.”

In addition to the OCI agreement, the strategic cooperation between the two firms covers other areas of engagement. Oracle will become a worldwide Uber for Business client, adopting Uber as its preferred ridesharing for its workers’ international travel and dining. Uber and Oracle will also continue to co-innovate on other retail and delivery solutions, including customer experiences with last-mile logistics, that will emerge from their cloud alliance.
