HARMAN and American Center for Mobility (ACM) Announce Strategic Collaboration

A strategic partnership between HARMAN and the American Center for Mobility (ACM) to test real-world use cases of road-ready technologies, such as Vehicle to Everything (V2X) enabled by roadside infrastructure and edge computing using 5G cellular to showcase ubiquitous connectivity, was announced today at MWC Barcelona 2023. HARMAN is an automotive electronics technology company and a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. that focuses on designing consumer experiences at the automotive grade.

HARMAN creates a wide range of innovative goods and solutions to increase seamless mobility and transportation effectiveness. Yet it is difficult and only possible in facilities that can closely replicate this environment in order to validate the goods and their inner workings in real-world contexts and scenarios. ACM offers a top-notch infrastructure to support sophisticated product validation in real-world scenarios. ACM tests 5G, V2X, and MEC technologies in actual settings.

To improve safe, sustainable, and secure transportation technology, ACM provides a unique worldwide development center. By granting industry access to shared testing facilities and intelligent infrastructure, ACM works to advance the validation and commercialization of connected and autonomous cars, which is at the core of its purpose.

Based on this approach, HARMAN and ACM are evaluating video See-Through & Do-Not-Pass warning alerts utilizing vision sensor sharing during actual driving scenarios with a range of limitations, including weather, network capabilities, and road conditions. For instance, See-Through offers a real-time, augmented video feed of a car in front of the “host” vehicle with extremely low latency. Integrating HARMAN 5G TCU with HARMAN Savari MECWAVE, enhances visibility, lowers driver stress, and boosts safety while enabling the host vehicle to undertake a safe overtaking move.

Automakers will be able to test and experience their connected vehicles and showcase new mobility use cases through HARMAN’s collaboration with ACM. In the future of linked mobility, connected infrastructure is crucial because it can give drivers and pedestrians better situational awareness by alerting them to traffic management and road dangers.

“Now having the ability to test these real-world scenarios demonstrates HARMAN’s ability to combine fast, reliable 5G, V2X & MEC to deliver improved situational awareness between vehicles, vulnerable road users and infrastructure without the need for increased computing onboard every vehicle and personal devices,” said Ram Iyer, Senior VP of Connectivity at HARMAN International. “This industry collaboration will not only play a pivotal role in improving road safety but help us continue to bring immersive, automotive grade experiences to life for consumers with 5G.”

“Making best-in-class infrastructure widely available through partnerships for automakers to test in real-world test environments embodies our approach at ACM,” said Reuben Sarkar, President, and CEO of ACM. “5G, V2X & MEC at ACM will enable validation of an expanding set of safety-critical use cases using road-ready connected vehicle solutions.”

At MWC Barcelona 2023, HARMAN will present the outcomes of this strategic partnership with ACM and highlight comprehensive, turnkey mobility products, such as HARMAN Savari MECWAVE and HARMAN Savari StreetWAVE, that will significantly increase the safety of drivers, passengers, and everyone else in their immediate environment.
