Out-of-band configuration tools released by Wohler for Riedel 2110 SFP's

Except for the iAM-12G-SDI, which is still under development, Wohler has announced that all of its IP devices now enable out-of-band control for SMPTE 2110, the industry standard for media over IP networks. The adaptability and compatibility of Wohler’s products with other SMPTE 2110-compliant systems are improved by this free upgrade, which is compatible with Wohler’s Riedel-based 2110 SFPs (loaded with Riedel firmware version 3.09 or above). Customers may now have even more control over their audio and video operations, which improves productivity and results in higher-quality output.

A/V streams with various IP settings and configurations may be monitored using Wohler’s built-in browser-based user interface by setting out-of-band control parameters either globally or per preset. This gives users the greatest degree of freedom. There are additional diagnostic data accessible. It is a step forward for a one-stop configuration to manage these settings with convenience and usefulness within the integrated Wohler web interface rather than requiring several setup tools.

According to SMPTE 2110, out-of-band control is a technique for managing and regulating media streams apart from the medium’s real data flow. Traditional in-band control embeds the control data directly into the media stream. In out-of-band control, the control data is transmitted over a different network connection or another outside method.

Out-of-band control has the advantage of enabling more effective and adaptable administration of media streams. Moreover, it lowers the overhead in the media stream and enables in-flight modifications without compromising media data. This may result in media-over-IP systems operating more efficiently and reliably.
