Daily Listen a self-reproducing audio summary from a user’s Discover feed and news searches.
Google is testing a new AI function called ‘Daily Listen’ which offers users a five-minute audio description of stories and subjects they may be interested in.
AI-generated audio summary: The summary is generated based on a user’s Discover feed and their news searches. Daily Listen even provides an AI-translated audio summary with a cover illustration.
The function is available for both Android and iOS in the US. You can turn it on in the Search Labs tab by tapping the triangular beaker in the top-left corner of the Google app.
The Daily Listen card ‘Made for you’ will appear as a Space carousel underneath the Google Search bar one day after activation, next to the Daily Listen button. A click on the card triggers a full screen player along with a thumbs up or thumbs down feedback form.
The personal AI function also gives users some controls to play, pause, rewind and muffle the sound.
Last September, Google released NotebookLM’s Audio Overviews, an AI-powered podcast format that can turn 10-minute documents into audio shows with ‘AI hosts’ who can break down the content being uploaded, draw connections between them, and engage in a back-and-forth dialogue.
In Notebook LM, Google just posted an update on Audio Overviews in Notebook LM a couple of weeks back. You can now “call in” to the podcast to be part of the conversation between AI hosts. They can ask the AI hosts to say something else or for more detail.
“A private tutor or mentor who is going to listen and just respond back to you based on the data you have in your sources,” Google said. This AI note-taking app is fuelled by Gemini 1.5 Pro and the experimental Gemini 2.0 Flash.
