Healthcare is a different game today. And Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) is changing it. With digital workspace solutions from Citrix Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CTXS), New Jersey’s largest integrated delivery network and hospital system have built a modern platform from which employees at the 17 hospitals and 500 patient centres it operates statewide work seamlessly can provide the superior care its patients expect, wherever they are.
“Today, we’re working on a hybrid model, and physicians need tools that allow them to care for patients from anywhere,” said Mark Eimer, SVP, Associate CIO and CTO, Information Technology Services, Hackensack Meridian Health.
In 2008, HMH embarked on the journey of delivering them when it implemented Citrix alongside Epic to provide easy, reliable access to the systems and information needed to manage care.
“As a technology team, our goal is to provide a platform from which our people can do things better, faster, smarter and more economically – and do it in a safe and consistent way,” said Eimer.
And Citrix has delivered. When the 2020 pandemic struck, HMH was forced to find innovative ways to ensure its 36,000+ employees could continue to provide their services seamlessly and transparently. And again, it turned to Citrix.
Using Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops™ deployed on Google Chromebooks, HMH was able to provide remote access to the work resources employees need to be engaged and productive, while dynamically applying security policies based on their behaviour and environment, so they can work from anywhere with the confidence that their applications, information, and devices are secure.
“Citrix has enabled us to achieve our goal of enabling hybrid work models in one solution, accommodating three groups: fully remote workers, those who prefer hybrid work, and workers who work on-site,” said Eimer.
To date, 31,000 employees have transitioned to digital workplace technology. And HMH sees results.
“We’ve seen 10 percent faster login times, which allows our staff to expedite care,” said Eimer.
And Eimer and his team are working to take things to the next level.
“We know that not all healthcare applications work well in the cloud,” said Eimer. “But it makes sense to move a lot of them,” said Eimer.
HMH is on track to do this using Citrix Cloud Services™ and Citrix DaaS™, which Eimer says will provide the organization with more security and more flexibility in delivering apps to clinicians.
“Citrix gives HMH – and organizations in the healthcare industry in general – a great competitive advantage in delivering patient care efficiently and effectively because it is the glue for creating a secure, collaborative and consistent platform that enables us to care for patients, not only today but also in the future,” he said.
